Visitors from the 18th century forward have written glowingly describing the beauty that citizens built in this city and the romance it exudes. Enjoy strolls by private homes, including Charleston's iconic "single houses" with their distinctive piazzas, and exploring interiors of impressive public structures.

Charleston is renowned for the charm produced by its numerous ironwork balconies, grilles and gates.  You'll admire the artistry and skill displayed in iron by the master craftsmen who worked their trade here, and entered the collection of the Smithsonian Institution.

A specialized tour focusing exclusively on ironwork is available.

(Interior tours of museum homes are available with separate admission fees.)
